The Introduction to the book of Ezekiel. Amplified bible. page 910:
…..the sinfulness and idolatry prevailing in Jerusalem will result in God’s abandoning the temple, as well as Jerusalem-with judgement to follow…..this is the theme of chapters 1-24.
Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord leave the rebellious house. Ezekiel 2:3-8. Ezekiel 3:7-9. Ezekiel 10:16-18. Ezekiel 11:23.
Hope for restoration comes in Chapters 33-39.
Restoration comes in Chapters 40-48.
The house, the temple, that Ezekiel saw, starting in Chapter 40, I believe, and it is generally believed, to be the millennial temple. the 7th day house. It will not be built by men’s hands. The Lord Himself will build this house. The Man called the Branch. Zechariah 6:12,13
I don’t know, and many say that they don’t know, if this house is a physical, natural house, or a spiritual house. I believe, at this point, that it is the spiritual house, and that Ezekiel, as an Old Testament prophet was seeing in type. The Lord will reveal many thing to us as we go on, walking in obedience to what He has already revealed.
Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord return to this house.
In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me down upon a very high mountain, on the south side of which there seemed to be the structure of a city. He brought me there, and behold, there was a man (an angel) whose appearance was like bronze……and the man said to me, Son of man, look with your eyes and hear with your ears and set your heart and mind on all that I will show you, for you are brought here that I may show them to you. Ezekiel 40:2,3a,4.
Afterward the man (an angel) brought me to the gate, the gate that faces east. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the east and His voice was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with His glory…..and the glory of the Lord entered the temple by the gate facing east. Then the Spirit caught me up and brought me into the inner court, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And I heard one speaking to me out of the temple, and a Man stood by me. And He (the Lord) said to me, Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever; and My holy name the house of Israel shall no more profane, neither they nor their kings, by their (idolatrous) harlotry, nor by the dead bodies and monuments of their kings, nor by setting their thresholds by My thresholds and their doorposts by My doorposts, with a mere wall between Me and them. They have profaned My holy name by their abominations which they have committed; therefore I have consumed then in My anger. Now let them put away their (idolatrous) harlotry and the dead bodies and monuments of their kings far from Me, and I will dwell in their midst forever. Son of man, show the temple by your description of it to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure accurately it’s appearance and plan. And if they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the form of the temple and the arrangement of it- it’s exits and it’s entrances and the whole form of it-all it’s ordinances and all it’s forms and all it’s laws. And write it down in their sight so that they may keep the whole form of it and all the ordinances of it and do them. This is the law of the house (of the Lord): The whole area round about on the top of the mountain (Mount Moriah) shall be most holy, separated, and set apart. Behold, this is the law of the house (of the Lord). Ezekiel 43:1-7a,8-12.
And he brought me by the way of the north gate to the front of the temple; I looked, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord, and I fell on my face. And the Lord said to me, Son of man, mark well and set your heart to see with your eyes and hear with your ears all that I say to you concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord and all it’s laws, and mark well and set your heart to know who are allowed to enter the temple and all those who are excluded from the sanctuary. And you shall say to the rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: O you house of Israel, let all your previous abominations be enough for you! (Do not repeat them!) You have brought into My sanctuary, aliens, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to pollute and to profane it, even My house, when you offer My bread, the fat and the blood; and through it all and in addition to all your abominations, they and you have broken My covenant. And you have not kept charge of My holy things, but you have chosen foreign keepers to please yourselves and have set them in charge of My sanctuary. Therefore thus says the Lord God: No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and flesh shall enter into My sanctuary (where no one but the priests might enter), of any foreigners who are among the children of Israel. But the Levites who went far away from me when Israel went astray, who went astray from Me after their idols, (most think that this means the golden calf), they shall bear (the punishment for) their iniquity and guilt. They shall minister in My sanctuary, having oversight as guards at the gates of the temple and ministering in the temple. They shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall attend the people to serve them. Because (the priests) ministered to (the people) before their idols and became a stumbling block of iniquity and guilt to the house of Israel, therefore I have lifted up My hand and have sworn against them, says the Lord God, that they shall bear the punishment for their iniquity and guilt. And they shall not come near to Me to do the office of a priest to Me, nor come near to any of My holy things that are most sacred; but they shall bear their shame and their punishment for the abominations which they have committed. Yet I will appoint them as caretakers to have charge of the temple, for all the service of the temple and for all that will be done in it. But the Levitical priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept the charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, shall come near to Me to minister to Me, and they shall attend Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood, says the Lord God. They shall enter into My sanctuary; and they shall come near to My table to minister to Me, and they shall keep My charge……The priests (of Zadok) shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the common or profane, and cause them to distinguish between the unclean and the clean. And in a controversy they shall act as judges, and they shall judge according to My judgments; and they shall keep My laws and My statutes in all My appointed feasts, and they shall keep My Sabbaths holy.
This (their ministry to Me) shall be to them as an inheritance, for I am their inheritance; and you shall give them no possession in Israel, for I am their possession. Ezekiel 44:4-16,23,24,28.
